EduGaming: Sweden, October 2018

Preparing the dinner - northern Sweden style!

T

just whizzes by - as of this writing, it's already October and now it's Tunaskolan hosting a Teacher Training meeting within our EU EduGaming project! As always, there's quite a lot of preparations to be carried out in advance - phew! - but when the colleagues finally arrive it's always so totally worth it. Virtual meetings are a super cool way to keep in touch but there's nothing that beats working together in the physical world. Afterwards, it's also a lot easier to continue the project work by communicating through the Internet.

A lecture by Stina Thunberg - from Luleå University of Technology - was a highlight right in the beginning of our week; one of Stina's research areas focuses on combining literature studies with the motivational aspects and the engagement offered by gamification. This was really eye opening to me and apparently to many others in the audience as well. Huge kudos to my language teacher colleague Cecilia Pohjanen for this contact; now it seems I also have an interview with Stina in the pipeline through my BeSmartOnAir YouTube channel and OnAirWithNiilo podcast combo. I'm sure looking forward to that.

Many project planning sessions remain during this October week in Luleå with our friends from Italy and Portugal and, of course, we do our best to provide them with a window into the Swedish school system. On top of that, we also hope to show them a little bit of all the fun and interesting things that make this very northern corner of the world such a great place to live in. Keeping my fingers crossed for some spectacular Northern Lights during the week!

Late March 2019 we will be hosting a much larger group from our two partner schools in Luleå and that time there will also be a bunch of Italian and Portuguese students enjoying the northern Sweden winter wonderland. More information coming up soon - and also all the details about the project meeting in Portugal in the spring of 2019 that we'll attend, together with some of our students from Tunaskolan. We will keep you posted.

Game on!
